500kW/1MWh Liquid-Cooled Containerized ESS For Cold Chain Logistics Park | Peak Arbitrage & Backup Power

Oct 12, 2026 Leave a message

Project Background

This energy storage project is deployed at a large cold chain logistics park. Refrigeration compressors and conveying equipment run 24/7, consuming massive power. Significant peak-valley tariff gaps push up electricity costs during daytime high-price hours. Power outages pose severe risks of cargo spoilage. The customer deploys 1 set of 500kW/1MWh 20ft liquid-cooled BESS container, AC-coupled to the park's 10kV distribution network. Core goals: peak-valley arbitrage to cut energy bills and short-duration backup power for critical refrigeration loads. The containerized design enables fast outdoor deployment.

Core Customer Pain Points

24/7 refrigeration loads coincide with high-tariff peak periods, resulting in huge power expenditure.

Brief grid outages may lead to cargo deterioration and heavy economic losses.

Fragmented available land makes building on-site energy storage rooms impractical with long civil construction cycles.

Wide temperature swings and high humidity accelerate battery degradation for air-cooled ESS.

Legacy power system lacks automatic load dispatch, bringing heavy manual O&M burdens.

System Configuration & Product Selection

1 × 500kW/1MWh 20ft liquid-cooled containerized BESS, AC-coupled topology. The container integrates high-voltage LFP battery clusters, PCS, BMS, liquid thermal management, aerosol fire suppression, HV distribution and local controller, IP54 protection. Factory SAT test completed before shipment. Auxiliary equipment: grid connection switchgear, current/voltage sensors, critical load transfer cabinet, cloud EMS platform.

Core Control Strategy

Peak-valley arbitrage: Charge during low-tariff valley hours; discharge in peak periods to replace expensive grid power.

Grid-tied to off-grid backup: When grid fails, PCS switches to grid-forming mode instantly to sustain refrigeration and monitoring loads. Auto re-synchronization once grid recovers.

Load smoothing: Mitigate power spikes caused by compressor startup and stabilize bus voltage for better power quality.

Remote O&M: Cloud EMS monitors SOC, cell temperature and PCS status, triggers fault alerts and auto-generates saving reports.

On-site Installation Challenges & Our Solutions

Challenge1: Heavy container weight, insufficient ground bearing capacity Solution: Geotechnical survey in advance. Reinforced concrete foundation with drainage design and settlement allowance to protect internal high-voltage wiring.

Challenge2: Narrow access road and limited hoisting space inside the park Solution: Compact 20ft container. Pre-planned delivery route and lifting zone. Full factory pre-commissioning; on-site work only includes placement, cabling and grid connection, shortening construction time.

Challenge3: High humidity & large temperature fluctuation accelerate battery aging Solution: Closed liquid circulation system inside sealed container to block moisture. Precise cell temperature control keeps small temperature difference across battery packs and slows degradation.

Challenge4: Require seamless on/off-grid switching, existing distribution lacks transfer circuit Solution: Matching load transfer cabinet paired with PCS. EMS enables millisecond-level switching for critical loads without major rework on original refrigeration power lines.
