1MW/2MWh Liquid-Cooled Containerized BESS For Industrial Park | PV Integration & Peak Demand Management

Oct 12, 2026 Leave a message

Project Background

This containerized energy storage project serves a large multi-workshop industrial park with rooftop PV arrays. Frequent start-stop of heavy motors creates sharp load spikes and high monthly demand charges. Solar generation and factory load are mismatched at noon, causing PV curtailment while expensive grid power is still required during peak hours. The customer deploys 1 set of 1MW/2MWh 20ft liquid-cooled BESS container, AC-coupled and paralleled with existing rooftop PV on the plant AC bus. Objectives: reduce peak demand charges, improve PV self-consumption, realize peak-valley arbitrage and optimize power quality.

Core Customer Pain Points

Motor start-up creates load surges, pushing monthly peak demand over limits and incurring heavy demand penalties.

Mismatch between midday PV generation and factory load leads to solar curtailment.

Limited outdoor land; constructing a dedicated energy storage building involves long approval cycles and high capital cost.

High ambient temperature plus industrial dust clogs air-cooled filters and requires frequent maintenance.

Coordinated control of PV and ESS is complex with legacy energy equipment.

System Configuration & Product Selection

1 × 1MW/2MWh 20ft liquid-cooled containerized BESS, AC-coupled topology. The container integrates high-voltage LFP battery clusters, high-power PCS, BMS, liquid thermal management, aerosol fire suppression, HV distribution and local controller, IP54 rating. Full factory SAT before delivery. Auxiliary equipment: existing rooftop PV & inverters, grid connection cabinet, sensors, cloud EMS platform.

Core Control Strategy

Peak demand limiting (priority): EMS monitors total grid import power. When load approaches the demand threshold, ESS discharges rapidly to cap peak draw and cut monthly demand charges.

PV self-consumption optimization: Solar power supplies workshop loads first. Surplus AC power charges the battery to reduce curtailment. Stored energy is released during high tariff periods.

Peak-valley arbitrage: Charge from grid during valley tariff hours to boost total revenue.

Power quality improvement: Fast response smooths load transients and stabilizes bus voltage. Cloud platform supports remote monitoring and fault pre-alert.

On-site Installation Challenges & Our Solutions

Challenge1: Heavy container with foundation settlement risk and strict fire separation requirements Solution: Geotechnical investigation and reinforced concrete foundation. Site layout reserves fire lanes and maintenance access to meet fire codes. Drainage design prevents water soaking HV connectors at container base.

Challenge2: Retrofit with existing rooftop PV; no native PV-ESS coordination Solution: Unified EMS collects real-time data from solar inverters, PCS and factory loads for hybrid dispatch. No replacement of original PV inverters required to leverage existing solar assets.

Challenge3: Dusty & hot industrial site; air-cooled systems suffer poor heat dissipation and heavy maintenance Solution: Fully sealed liquid-cooled container without exposed filter mesh, isolating dust from battery compartment. Uniform liquid temperature control eliminates hotspots and reduces battery degradation and cleaning work.

Challenge4: Complex HV grid commissioning may disrupt factory production Solution: Complete SAT and protection logic testing at factory. Staged phased grid connection on site, commissioning without production interruption. Full power quality inspection before formal energization.

Project Outcomes & Benefits

Dual revenue streams: reduced demand charges + higher PV self-consumption, shortening project ROI.

Pre-fabricated container reduces civil work and delivery lead time, no dedicated energy storage building needed.

Liquid cooling fits hot, dusty industrial environments, extending battery life and lowering maintenance workload.

Unified EMS manages PV and ESS with visualized dashboard, remote parameter adjustment and automatic benefit calculation.
