South America’s First Industrial And Commercial Energy Storage Project Launched: MECC’s ESS Solves High Electricity Cost Dilemma For A Peruvian Pharmaceutical Plant

A pharmaceutical enterprise in Arequipa, Peru, has long been plagued by the operational pressure of exorbitant electricity prices during peak hours. Currently, this problem has been effectively resolved through the application of energy storage technology. MECC's industrial and commercial energy storage system, the first of its kind delivered by the company in South America, has recently completed commissioning and achieved stable operation. Based on an intelligent load scheduling strategy, the system discharges at a power of 400kW during the daily electricity price peak period (6:00 PM to 8:00 PM), precisely covering the enterprise's peak electricity cost. This customized energy management solution is expected to save the customer approximately USD 6,000 in monthly electricity bills, with an investment payback period of only about 3 years.

1. Project Highlights & Customer Benefits: High Integration for Precision Peak Shaving

The core configuration of this project is a 500kW/900kWh distributed industrial and commercial energy storage system, adopting a factory prefabricated cabinet-type integrated structure. It deeply integrates PCS (Power Conversion System), 225kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery modules and EMS (Energy Management System), constructing a "plug-and-play" rapid deployment model. On-site construction only needs to complete three core processes: "equipment positioning - cable connection - system startup", which not only greatly shortens the installation cycle but also ensures the consistency and reliability of system operation through standardized production processes.

Tailored to the electricity demand characteristics of continuous production in pharmaceutical enterprises, the project adopts a pure peak-shaving operation strategy that accurately matches the load curve: it uses the off-peak electricity price period from 00:00 to 17:00 (midnight to 5:00 PM) to complete energy storage charging, and discharges at a rated power of 400kW during the peak electricity price period from 18:00 to 20:00 (6:00 PM to 8:00 PM), realizing load substitution in the high electricity price interval. This significantly reduces the enterprise's electricity costs during peak hours. The stable monthly electricity savings are directly converted into operational profits, forming a positive economic cycle of "investment - energy conservation - revenue generation".

2. Premium Services & Empowerment Training: Cross-Border Support for Long-Term Performance

The success of the project is inseparable from MECC's strong support throughout the whole process. Faced with complex conditions during the commissioning phase, our on-site engineers, marketing managers and local technical service partners responded quickly, intervened in troubleshooting at the first time, and ensured the system was put into operation as scheduled through professional technical reserves and localized collaborative response.

More importantly, to realize the localization of operation and maintenance capabilities, we provided comprehensive and in-depth service engineer training for the project's EPC contractor, factory staff and local partners. Covering system operation, daily maintenance and basic fault diagnosis, the training combines theoretical teaching with practical operation drills to transfer professional operation and maintenance capabilities to end users, truly achieving "teaching others to fish" and ensuring that customers and partners can manage the system independently, safely and for a long time.

3. Product Strength: Anchoring Industrial Energy Storage Demands with the "3S" Value Proposition

The outstanding performance of the industrial and commercial energy storage system deployed this time fully interprets our "3S" value proposition, accurately matching the stringent requirements of industrial scenarios:

Strong (Reliable & Durable): Equipped with 314Ah lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery cells and a three-level BMS (Battery Management System), the temperature difference of battery cells is controlled within 5℃, ensuring battery cycle life and charge-discharge consistency; the battery pack and cabinet are equipped with a dual fire protection system with a built-in aerosol fire extinguishing system, reaching IP55 protection level. It can operate stably in complex environments such as a wide temperature range of -25℃ ~ +55℃ and high altitude, adapting to the diverse climatic conditions in South America.

Simple (Cost-Effective & Hassle-Free): Supports parallel operation of 4-6 cabinets and flexible switching between grid-connected and off-grid modes, greatly reducing the difficulty of system capacity expansion; the factory prefabricated design simplifies on-site construction; the local HMI human-machine interface is linked with the cloud monitoring platform, realizing real-time visualization of operation status and remote adjustment of parameters, significantly lowering the operation and maintenance threshold.

Smart (Intelligent & Evolvable): The PCS efficiency is as high as 98.2%, the power factor (PF) can be adjusted between -1 and +1, and the grid-connected current harmonic (THDi) is < 3%, ensuring high-quality power output; it provides open interfaces such as RS485, CAN and Ethernet, and combined with cloud empowerment, supports remote strategy optimization and refined energy management.
